TRADE SHOW RECAP - ISSA ORLANDO, FLORIDA 2010

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

It was an exciting week for Aztec Products during the ISSA/INTERCLEAN North America trade show, which was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando November 9-12, 2010. The trade show brought the Jan/San industry together for a week of networking, education and special events.

While Aztec’s trade show booth featured the ever-successful Sidewinder system and the ProScrub autoscrubber, the all new dust-control Answer buffer and the Aztec UltraGrind concrete grinder and polisher were no doubt the highlights of the show. Contractors and distributors were all a-buzz about these two new machines that are taking Aztec’s reputation for serious high speed floor care to a whole new level. The new dust control Answer buffer/burnisher solves the concern of IAQ (Indoor Air Quality). Meanwhile the UltraGrind concrete floor grinding, honing and polishing machine is truly something to see. Weighing over 800 pounds, it caught everyone’s attention.

If you would like to see Aztec’s dust control Answer and UltraGrind machines in person, stop by our outdoor booth # O30226 at the upcoming World of Concrete show in Las Vegas, January 18-21, 2011 at the Las Vegas Convention Center; you will even get to use the machines yourself!

Trade Show Recap - International Concrete Polishing & Staining Conference (ICPSC) in Atlanta

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

The 3rd annual International Concrete Polishing & Staining Conference (ICPSC) in Atlanta was Aztec’s first. Traditionally Aztec has only gone to the larger shows with more attendees, but since the successful launching of Aztec’s new concrete polishing line of machines, we decided to give this conference a shot. Unlike the ISSA or World of Concrete (WOC) shows where there are 15,000+ attendees, the ICPSC had only about 300. However at this conference every one of them was interested in polished concrete, and therefore was a potential customer.

The ICPSC was a very successful show for Aztec. In spite of all of the accelerants and hardeners put in trade show concrete slabs, we managed to get our 10×15 concrete slab cut and polished very quickly with our new UltraGrind machine. Some competitors (who shall remain unnamed) had a much harder job of opening up their floor. Some even resorted to riding on their machines to generate additional weight.

After we got the floor polished with the diamonds, we hit it with our new dust control burnisher, which really brought up the shine. It worked so well that we ended up lending it to 3-4 other competitors to get their shine up. You can see a picture of the floor with our logo reflecting in the floor, check it out on our Facebook page. The crazy thing is we got this level of shine only going to 800 grit.

The other great thing about the Aztec buffer was how fast it heated up the concrete. An infrared thermometer revealed that our new dust control buffer increased the floor temperature by 10 degrees per pass. We actually got the floor up to 127 degrees. This is significant because heat is a necessary ingredient to optimize many guard products.

People also liked the idea of the VCT crossover products that Aztec manufactures. The Guzzler is made to pick up floor wax slurry on a VCT tile floor, but works really well on concrete slurry too. The Grand Finale was designed to apply floor wax quickly and evenly to large VCT tile floors, but works great for densifier and guard products.

Last but certainly not least, Aztec was able to hire Skip Edwards as a new manufacturer’s rep for concrete polishing equipment. Skip has extensive experience with concrete over the years and is currently also a rep with Ameripolish. He will be covering concrete products sales in CA, NV, AZ and HI for Aztec.

It was not all work at the ICPSC either. Steven, Whit, Joe and Skip were able to catch a Phillies – Braves game on Friday night. The Phillies win was punctuated by a Grand Slam homerun by Jimmy Rollins.

We are now looking forward to the ISSA Jan/San show November in Orlando and the World of Concrete Expo January in Las Vegas. At the World of Concrete, we will have a 20ft x 30ft outdoor slab where you can try all of our machines for yourself. Please come and visit!

Aztec Introduces the Grand Finale Floor Finisher

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Aztec completes the Sidewinder™ Stripping System with an easy to use floor wax applicator - Aztec is introducing the Grand Finale, the newest addition to an extensive line of floor stripping, buffing and polishing machines. The Aztec Grand Finale is a simple, rugged floor chemical application machine designed to apply floor finish, concrete densifiers, hardeners and sealers quickly and uniformly. The Grand Finale also completes the Aztec Sidewinder™ Stripping System with an easy to use floor wax applicator.

For over 20 years the Aztec Sidewinder System has saved customers hundreds of man-hours on the labor-intensive job of floor stripping. The Sidewinder Stripping & Refinishing System can now also save them many hours on the slow process of applying floor finish.

The Grand Finale provides an easy, high speed way to lay down a smooth, uniform coat of fresh floor finish at an average rate of approximately 50,000 square feet/hour. The janitorial/sanitation industry will quickly recognize huge labor savings in the elimination of baseboard splash and product waste associated with finish puddling.

The Grand Finale is the newest addition to Aztec’s extensive line of high speed floor stripping, buffing, scrubbing and polishing machines. Aztec’s VP of Sales, Steven Spengler said, “For years our customers have encouraged Aztec to produce a wax applicator to complete the Sidewinder Stripping System. Therefore, we are very excited about our new Grand Finale. With Aztec’s Grand Finale, we complete our arsenal of high speed custom built equipment for VCT floors. By the way, it’s works well on wood and concrete floors too”.

Whit Beverly, President of Aztec Products said, “As a manufacturer, Aztec is thrilled to now be selling a finish applicator that we make ‘in-house’ at our Philadelphia, PA facility. Because we make it ‘in-house’, we have an extensive inventory of reasonably-priced service and replacement parts at our fingertips for quick shipment to customers in need. Quality is assured by Aztec’s production team, and customer service calls are answered by the same people who make the machines. The other great thing about the Grand Finale as a product is that it addresses both of the markets that Aztec serves as a company – VCT maintenance and concrete floor polishing.”

Today Aztec announces the UltraGrind is now in production and available with diamonds and chemicals for grinding and polishing concrete floors.

The UltraGrind is the newest addition to Aztec’s extensive line of floor stripping, buffing and polishing machines. The Aztec UltraGrind has been designed for the more aggressive concrete floor grinding and polishing applications, where the goal is to both remove material and highly polish concrete floors. The UltraGrind machine is complementary to the DiamondShine, which is specifically designed for ultra high speed, large area concrete polishing only applications.

Weighing more than 500 pounds, the UltraGrind provides the ideal 40 pounds of head pressure per diamond abrasive for maximum results. The UltraGrind has industry-standard 2-inch exhaust ports for concrete dust vacuums. The UltraGrind also has an 8 gallon water tank, potentially adding up to 80 additional pounds of head pressure, and allowing the user to re-wet the floor while polishing. Like all of Aztec’s machines, it is made entirely in the USA.

The Aztec UltraGrind is powered by the new 20hp Kawasaki 603cc engine, featuring a heavy duty canister air filter.

Aztec’s VP of Sales, Steven Spengler said, “Our customers have requested for some time now that we manufacture a heavy duty concrete grinding machine. Aztec is known industry-wide for quality, value and serious time and labor savings. The propane powered UltraGrind is powerful, and will prove to be a valuable addition to the Aztec line-up for our contractor friends in the concrete floor industry”.

Aztec Certifies New Kawasaki 603CC Engine

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Aztec Products is proud to announce its EPA certification of the new Kawasaki FS481V engine. This 603CC engine yields a maximum of 22hp when set-up to burn gasoline. With Aztec Products’ custom-made LPG carburetor, Aztec’s certified testing lab was able to achieve the impressive results of 17.19hp, with emission numbers of only 1.132 CO g/kw-hr and 1.898 HC+NOx g/kw-hr.

Providing sufficient horsepower in a floor cleaning machine is important. The higher the percentage of the engine’s horsepower required by the mechanics of the machine, the harder the engine has to work. The harder the engine works, the shorter the engine life and the more preventative maintenance required. The power of the Kawasaki 603CC engine ensures that if you care for your Aztec machine properly, it will last a very long time.

The emission numbers are far better than those required by EPA and CARB. Emission levels this low take “Green Cleaning” to a whole new level. These low emission numbers were previously unheard of without employing closed-loop fuel monitoring systems, which have historically proven to be both expensive and problematic. Aztec machines equipped with this 603CC engine meet LEED IEQ Credit 3.4 Requirements for Green cleaning and Facility LEED certification.

President Whit Beverly said, “Kawasaki has really done a great job with this engine. We got a nearly 15% power increase with no price increase. I am sure our customers will really love it.”

Steven Spengler, Vice President of Sales, said “This new stronger engine will give Aztec machines the edge on performance in the concrete floor industry where the torque of floor-to-pad resistance is especially demanding.”

This new EPA certified Kawasaki 603CC engine will be available on all Aztec Sidewinders, Reliant and Answer propane buffers, and the DiamondShine and UltraGrind concrete floor polishers.

WORLD OF CONCRETE RECAP - What stays in Vegas? Not us, whew!

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

What a fantastic show! Although the actual floor space may have been smaller than in the past years, the attendance was great and we enjoyed meeting up with many of our concrete floor customers.

While in Las Vegas, Aztec unveiled the new UltraGrind to an overwhelming amount of positive feedback. The UltraGrind is the ultimate propane powered, planetary head, gear driven, concrete grinding machine. The excitement was high for this very flexible machine, designed for grinding, scarifying, and doing all general concrete floor preparation. People were particularly enthusiastic about the idea of eliminating the expense and restrictions that generators and cords bring to the scene. Not to mention the clean up of those cords once the job is complete…

Again this year there was a lot of interest in the Aztec ProScrub autoscrubber and the Aztec Reliant propane buffer – the only twin belted burnisher in the industry. Aztec is currently in the process of perfecting dust control and a water spray method to make the job easier for the contractor on the job.

While at the show, Aztec’s Vice President of Sales, Steven Spengler, along with our Technical Service Manager, Dave Groff attended several seminars involving all aspects of concrete, from Pre-Construction Planning to the Final Finish. “I have great respect for the concrete contractors, finishers and testing agencies who have invested education and training. They comply with the strict requirements and follow specs that bring out the very best in concrete floors for safety, appearance and longevity”, says Steven.

On the more adventurous side of the Las Vegas trip, Aztec employees made numerous “contributions” to various casinos along the strip, and also enjoyed some meals and music at the House of Blues, Mandalay Bay’s Foundation Room and Pure nightclub, to name just a few.

By the close of the World of Concrete show, the east coast was about to receive several feet of snow, and so the panic and scramble to find an uncancelled flight home became quite a challenge. Our Vice President of Sales, Steven Spengler, and our Administrative Assistant, Crystal Rose were temporarily stranded on the strip. But thank heavens for their continued patience, as they returned home on Super Bowl Sunday, just in time for the kick off.
